A smartphone or tablet could be another critical tool to help kids establish effective dental hygiene habits. An online game called Toothsavers is one of the many new apps that focuses on kid’s dental health.
In the intriguing Toothsavers game (designed for ages 3 – 6), children try to save characters from an evil sorceress who inflicts cavities and other oral ailments on residents of her kingdom. On screen, the players can use their fingers to pretend clean the characters’ teeth in the game, winning points.
The game is designed to encourage young children to brush properly for two minutes, two times a day and create awareness of the importance of appropriate oral hygiene.
The Toothsavers game was designed and sponsored by the American Dental Association, in partnership with 35 other organizations.
“Mobile technology plays a major role in influencing young people’s behavior and is a great fit for this campaign. We’re thrilled to release our first mobile game, which represents our ongoing efforts to use technology to promote health, education and well-being. We look forward to using this app to help kids maintain healthy oral health habits, and have fun while doing it!“ – Peggy Conlon, president and CEO of the Ad Council.
The game allows young children to time and record their toothbrushing. It also has alerts to remind them when it’s time to brush. As part of the game, users watch engaging two-minute instructive videos while they brush their teeth (in the real world). Each day anew character comes to life and the player watches a video while brushing morning and night. The free app can be downloaded at the App Store or Google Play.
In addition to proper toothbrushing, establishing a relationship with a trusted family dentist is important for keeping kid’s smiles healthy. If you are looking for a children’s dentist in the Campbell area, we invite you to schedule a consultation.
